Andretti Winery Celebrates the Season in Style
Andretti Winery continues to impress, as winemaker Bob Pepi puts forward award-winning wines and the folks at the winery create unique experiences to be shared and savored by Napa Valley visitors this season.
Nestled in the heart of the Napa Valley, legendary race car driver Mario Andretti’s Tuscan villa estate is home today to a 42-acre vineyard, winery, barrel-aging chai, tasting room, patio and an Italianate dining room. Modeled after a rambling Italian village, the property is reminiscent of the home of its founder. Surrounded by towering cypress trees and twining grapevines, visitors can tour the winery as well as enjoy the essence of Italian-style wine and cuisine. Andretti offers dinners and lunches favoring local ingredients, “L’Italia in Vigneto,” and hosts four tiers of wine tastings which includes a barrel tasting in the winery, as well as art exhibitions and jazz-filled evenings under the stars.
Andretti Winery tastings are available daily:
Villa Tasting – $10 per person, featuring signature Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Dolcetto and Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley Tasting – $15 per person, showcasing Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Founders Tasting – $30 per person, which is a seated tasting in the Tuscan House featuring several of Andretti’s reserve wines: Pinot Grigio, Montona Series Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Zinfandel Port
Delizia Tasting – $5 per person, for those in search of a simple dessert wine experience, featuring Moscato and Zinfandel Port
“We are very proud of our wine and of our magnificent property,” commented Joe Antonini, co-founder and CEO of Andretti Winery. “Mario’s name is on every bottle, and we want to make sure every glass and every visit lives up to his world-class reputation.”
Andretti Winery is renowned for its portfolio of fine wines featuring traditional regional varietals, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, as well as luxury Italian varietals, Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Dolcetto. Recent stand-outs include the 2009 Sangiovese, awarded a gold medal and 92 points at the Los Angeles International Wine Competition, as well as the Andretti 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2010 Pinot Noir, both of which won medals at the San Francisco International Wine Competition in May 2012.
Winemaker Bob Pepi has been a cornerstone in the Andretti success. Involved since the winery’s inception, Bob has long been a recognized winemaker in the region. Years ago Bob and his father started the Robert Pepi Family Winery in Oakville, as a natural extension of fifteen years of owning vineyards in the Napa Valley. There Pepi developed a reputation for pioneering the Sangiovese grape and wine made from this traditional Italian varietal, now a staple at Andretti.
A leader in his field, Bob’s philosophy is that great wines are made in the vineyards, and as winemaker he guides their development through the fermentation and aging process until the wines are ready for release. The wines he crafts are recognizable for their fruity character, balance and complexity. The Andretti Super Tuscan clearly represents his talent and passion. “The Super Tuscan 2009 sold out upon arrival and another vintage of Super Tuscan 2010 will be released in September,” commented Pepi. “It is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet made from Napa Valley fruit, aged for 16 months in French oak barrels. I’m proud of these for sure.”
Much has happened at Andretti and much is on the horizon. The fall promises afternoons and evenings of wine pairings with seasonal desserts, experiences of “Dolce in Vigneto.” Locally acclaimed pastry chef Penelope Jane will be crafting regional favorites such as fall stone fruit bars and harvest pies to marry with an exquisite range of Andretti dessert wines. “Dolce in Vigneto” will conclude on February 14, 2013, Valentine’s Day, with hand-made chocolate truffles. What a sweet conclusion.
